Thermal Spray powder

Common Thermal - Spray Powders and Their Applications

  • Ceramic Powders

Alumina Powder

Insulation Application:

In the electronics and electrical industries, alumina powder is commonly used to prepare insulating coatings. For example, on components of high-voltage electrical equipment such as insulators and bushings, the alumina coating formed by thermal spraying can effectively prevent current leakage and ensure the safe operation of the equipment in a high-voltage environment.

Wear Resistance Application:

In the field of machining, alumina coatings can be used to improve the wear resistance of components such as cutting tools and molds. For instance, spraying an alumina coating on the surface of a cutting tool can enhance its wear resistance during the cutting process, extend the service life of the tool, and improve machining accuracy.

Zirconia Powder

High Temperature Resistance Application:

It is widely used in components in high-temperature environments such as those in the aerospace and automotive engine industries. For example, spraying a zirconia coating on the surface of turbine blades of an engine can enable them to maintain good performance under the harsh conditions of high temperature and high pressure, preventing the blades from being damaged by high-temperature oxidation and hot corrosion.

Biomedical Application:

Zirconia has good biocompatibility. In the biomedical field, it can be used to prepare coatings for medical devices such as dental implants and artificial joints, improving their wear resistance and corrosion resistance while reducing adverse effects on human tissues.

Tungsten Carbide Powder

Ultra-Hard and Wear-Resistant Application:

Tungsten carbide coatings have extremely high hardness and wear resistance. In heavy industries such as mining and oil drilling, they are used on various drilling tools, crusher components, etc., which can significantly improve the wear resistance of the tools, reduce the wear rate, and improve work efficiency.

Cutting Application:

On metal cutting tools, tungsten carbide coatings can withstand the high temperature and high pressure during the high-speed cutting process, effectively improving the cutting performance of the tools, such as increasing the cutting speed and reducing the cutting force.

  • Cermet Powders (Taking NiCr – Cr₃C₂ as an Example)

High-Temperature Wear-Resistant and Corrosion-Resistant Application:

In the energy power generation industry, for example, on the blades of gas turbines, the NiCr – Cr₃C₂ coating can maintain the integrity and performance of the blades under the scouring of high-temperature and high-speed gas as well as in a corrosive environment. On high-temperature reaction kettles, pipelines and other equipment in the chemical industry, it can also effectively resist chemical corrosion and wear at high temperatures and extend the service life of the equipment.

Metallurgical Industry Application:

In the continuous casting equipment of the metallurgical industry, the cermet powder coating can be applied to the surface of the mold to prevent the erosion and adhesion of molten steel to the mold, improve the surface quality of the casting billet and the service life of the mold.

  • Polymer Powders

Epoxy Resin Powder

Anti-Corrosion Application:

On equipment such as chemical pipelines and oil storage tanks, epoxy resin coatings can resist the erosion of various chemical substances. Its good chemical stability enables the equipment to effectively protect the internal substrate materials from corrosion when in contact with corrosive media such as acids, alkalis and salts.

Electronic Packaging Application:

In the packaging process of electronic components, the epoxy resin powder coating can provide good insulation performance and mechanical protection. For example, packaging the electronic components on the circuit board can prevent the components from being affected by external physical and chemical factors and ensure the reliability of the electronic equipment.

Nylon Powder

Wear-Resistant and Self-Lubricating Application:

On mechanical transmission components such as gears and chains, nylon coatings can provide a certain degree of wear resistance and have self-lubricating properties, which can reduce the friction coefficient between components, reduce energy loss, and also reduce noise and vibration.

Chemical Resistance Application:

On some plastic containers, pipelines and other components that need to be in contact with chemical substances, nylon coatings can improve the chemical resistance of the components and prevent chemical substances from eroding the plastic substrate.
