Thermal Spray Masking Tape
Thermal spray masking tape is a kind of tape used in the thermal spraying process, mainly playing the role of masking and protecting specific areas to prevent the spraying materials from adhering to the parts that do not need to be sprayed.
Characteristics of Thermal Spray Masking Tape
High temperature resistance:
It can withstand the high temperatures generated during the thermal spraying process. For example, in processes such as plasma spraying and high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying, it will not be damaged, deformed or lose its adhesiveness when in contact with high temperatures for a long time.
Good adhesion:
It has a relatively strong adhesion to the masked surface. During the spraying process, it can be firmly attached to prevent the tape from shifting or falling off, ensuring the masking effect.
Abrasion resistance: It has the ability to resist the impact and abrasion of spraying particles. In processes such as sandblasting and spraying, it protects the masked areas from being worn.
Easy to remove:
After the spraying is completed, the tape can be removed cleanly and quickly from the masked surface without leaving glue or other substances behind, reducing the subsequent cleaning work and the impact on the surface quality of the workpiece.
Good flexibility and conformability:
It can easily conform to the surfaces of workpieces with various shapes and contours, including complex geometries and curved surfaces, effectively masking hard-to-reach areas.
Application fields
Aviation and aerospace:
It is used for the thermal spraying protection of aircraft engine components, fuselage structural parts, etc., preventing coating contamination in areas that do not need to be sprayed and ensuring the performance and reliability of key components.
Automotive manufacturing:
In the thermal spraying processing of automotive engine blocks, pistons, crankshafts and other components, the masking tape can protect specific areas and improve the quality and durability of the coatings.
Energy and power:
For example, in the thermal spraying protection of gas turbine blades, boiler pipes, etc., it can prevent high-temperature corrosion and wear and extend the service life of equipment.
Mechanical processing:
When applying thermal spraying wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coatings to various mechanical parts, it is used to mask the surfaces that do not need to be treated to ensure the precise application of coatings.
Common types
Silicone-coated fiberglass tape:
It has relatively good comprehensive performance, with good high temperature resistance, abrasion resistance and flexibility, and can adapt to various thermal spraying processes.
Multilayer tape:
It is composed of multiple layers of materials and is suitable for relatively harsh thermal spraying environments with high requirements for masking strength and durability, such as the HVOF process.
Aluminum foil tape:
It has good flexibility and conformability and is suitable for masking components with complex shapes, effectively preventing the penetration of spraying materials.
Glass cloth tape:
It is relatively cost-effective and can be used as a basic masking layer in high-temperature and high-pressure spraying operations or as a main masking layer in processes with less stringent requirements.
